These are wonderful technological advances to keep us connected, but are dangerous tools in the hands of children who do not yet possess the judgment of an adult about their appropriate use. Often these are used without adult supervision present, and so the tone and tenor of a message or IM sent is not censored. Children are under the false impression that their messages are “private” when in fact they are not. Every written message creates a trail that could have serious consequences. With this in mind, it is imperative that your children know what is acceptable—and unacceptable—when it comes to their written and spoken words. It is imperative that they hear this from you.
